Introduction
SixQs is a Chrome extension that summarizes news articles using the 5Ws and 1H technique. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Password (encrypted)
This information is stored securely in Firebase Authentication and is only used to manage your account and save your preferences.
User Preferences
We store your customization settings, including:
- Summary type preference (key points, TLDR, teaser)
- Summary length preference
- Preferred language for translation
These preferences are stored in Firebase Firestore and linked to your account.
Article Content
When you summarize an article:
- Article content is processed locally using Chrome’s built-in AI when available
- If local AI is unavailable, article content is sent to our fallback service (Gemini API) for processing
- We do not store article content or summaries on our servers
- Summaries are stored temporarily in your browser’s memory and deleted when you close the tab
Usage Data
We do not collect analytics, tracking data, or browsing history.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to:
- Authenticate your account
- Save and retrieve your preferences across devices
- Generate summaries of news articles you choose to summarize
- Provide Wikipedia context for people and places mentioned in articles
Data Processing
Local Processing
When Chrome’s built-in AI models are available:
- All summarization happens on your device
- No article content is sent to external servers
- Processing is completely private
Fallback Processing
When local AI is unavailable:
- Article content is sent to the Gemini API for summarization
- Content is processed according to Google’s privacy policies
- We do not store or log article content sent to the fallback service
Third-Party Services
Firebase (Google)
- Handles authentication and preference storage
- Subject to Google’s privacy policies
- Data stored in secure Firebase databases
Wikipedia API
- Used to fetch information about people and places
- No personal data is sent to Wikipedia
- Subject to Wikipedia’s privacy policy
Gemini API (Google)
- Used as fallback when local AI is unavailable
- Article content is processed but not stored
- Subject to Google’s privacy policies
Data Retention
- Account information is retained until you delete your account
- Preferences are retained as long as your account exists
- Summaries are stored in browser memory only and deleted when you close the tab
- We do not maintain logs of articles you’ve summarized
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your account information and preferences
- Update or modify your preferences at any time
- Delete your account and associated data
- Use the extension without creating an account (preferences won’t be saved)
Data Security
We implement security measures including:
- Encrypted password storage
- Secure Firebase authentication
- HTTPS connections for all data transmission
- No storage of article content on our servers
Children’s Privacy
SixQs is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy as the extension evolves. We will notify users of significant changes through the extension interface. Your continued use of SixQs after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Data Deletion
To delete your account and all associated data:
- Open the SixQs extension
- Go to Settings
- Click “Delete Account”
- Confirm deletion
Account deletion is permanent and removes all your preferences from our database.
